Pope Benedict: Word of God is still alive

 
Pope Benedict XVI waves to the faithful gathered in Saint-Peter's square at the Vatican during his weekly general audience on October 12, 2011. The pPontiff called on Egypt to fight 'attempts to sabotage' relations between Christians and Muslims. Addressing pilgrims during the weekly general audience, the pope expressed his sorrow over clashes between protesters and security forces on Sunday that left 25 people dead, mainly Coptic Christians. The pontiff called for national unity a day after Egypt's deputy prime minister resigned after the clashes sparked a wave of anger at the ruling military and calls for the premier to quit.

Pope Benedict on Saturday evening addressed a conference entitled "New Evangelizers for the New Evangelization - The Word of God grows and spreads" sponsored by the recently established Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization.

The Holy Father began his address by affirming the Word of God is still alive, to this day, because the Church makes it present through her faithful transmission, in the celebration of the sacraments and in the testimony of believers, living the same life-blood as the first Christian community.

Pope Benedict then presented the challenges the new Pontifical Council faces in today’s world.
